In D&D players create characters with unique abilities, then describe their actions in an imagined world while a Dungeon Master narrates the story and controls challenges. Outcomes of risky actions are resolved by rolling a 20-sided die (d20), combined with character stats, determining success or failure in combat, exploration, and social encounters.
